Dr. Leroy Hamilton, Jr. serves as the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs is a senior administrator who facilitates academic integrity, planning, faculty affairs, and academic leadership matters. He ensures that the quality of undergraduate and graduate programs comply with national, regional, and state accreditation standards by facilitating academic program review exercises to continue to elevate signature programs within the academic enterprise. Dr. Hamilton serves as the SACSCOC Institutional Liaison for administrators, faculty, and other constituents of the University. As Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Dr. Hamilton works collaboratively with a cohesive group of administrators, faculty, staff, and students to review all academic, fiscal, and other campus operations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Dr. Leroy Hamilton, Jr. served as the chief academic officer with a significant impact on the campus, in the community, and in the region. Reporting to the President, he provided leadership for the core academic mission of the university by developing, implementing, and assuring quality of undergraduate and graduate programs, instruction, research, and service. Dr. Hamilton is adept in providing on-going supervision of deans and directors and facilitating the administration of academic-related functions of the University. As Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, he managed the College of Humanities, Business, and Society; the College of Agriculture, Community, and the Sciences (including programs in nursing and education); Whitney Young Honors Collegium; as well as the Center for Excellence for the Study of Kentucky African Americans, the Center for Research on the Eradication of Educational Disparities, and Institutional Research and Assessment. Working collaboratively with dynamic teams as well as with a faculty deeply committed to student success, Dr. Hamilton provided leadership and stability and, ultimately, making decisions to ensure that the University delivers a strong and relevant educational experience for a racially diverse student body.

Dr. Leroy Hamilton, Jr. served as a member of the senior leadership team and worked with a wide range of university leaders, faculty, and staff to advance cross-functional projects under the direction of the President. He partnered with the President, Executive Cabinet Staff, individuals across campus and within the community and Commonwealth to support the President’s initiatives and the University’s strategic plan to build an atmosphere of coordination and clear understanding of the institution’s mission, vision, and goals. Dr. Hamilton handled a wide range of time-sensitive, confidential executive responsibilities while representing the President’s Office internally and externally.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (Interim)/ SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison

Roles and Responsibilities:

Dr. Leroy Hamilton, Jr. served as the chief academic officer of the university to provide leadership, vision, and oversight for instructional programs. As Provost and Vice President, Dr. Hamilton guided policy formulation, educational planning and new program development in an integrated instructional, academic support, and student success-oriented setting. He managed academic planning, teaching, research, partnerships, and continuing education by provided administrative leadership and oversight of a college division that includes, but is not limited to, the following units: Office of Academic Student Engagement, Office of Academic Effectiveness (Accreditation), Office of Faculty Affairs, Library Services, Office of Information Technology Services, Colleges/Schools, Honors College, Graduate Studies, Registrar’s Office and Student Success Center.
Dr. Hamilton served as the institutional accreditation liaison for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC). He successfully led the institution through their fifth year and reaffirmation of accreditation processes and completed the SACSCOC Academic Peer Evaluator Training Workshop and have served on several off-site and on-site accreditation committees. In these roles, he conducted workshops on academic program review at SACSCOC annual meetings. Additionally, Dr. Hamilton led an SACSCOC Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and, as a result, gained expertise in program assessment processes and procedures. As a member of both the executive and implementation committees for the QEP, he supervised teams of faculty, staff, and student workers, and conducted staff development sessions as part of the auditing of measurable unit outcomes.

Vice Provost, Academic Effectiveness and Faculty Affairs (Interim)
Dr. Leroy Hamilton, Jr. provided exceptional intellectual leadership, active engagement with the NSU community, and administrative skill. He led teams to conduct a review of all academic programs for viability and to develop a traditional and online curriculum to offer bachelor’s and master’s degrees. In this effort, Dr. Hamilton worked with internal and external stakeholders to develop action plans to assess curricula, to review academic programs for quality, and to offer more viable degree programs. Dr. Hamilton provided leadership for university initiatives, programs and structures that support faculty and academic programs.
As for institutional effectiveness and assessing student learning outcomes, Dr. Hamilton led assessment workshops and conducted assessment activities to ensure continuous improvement efforts, which required assembling and creating a cohesive group of administrators, faculty, staff, and students to review all aspects of academic, fiscal, and other campus operations.

Dr. Leroy Hamilton, Jr. provided leadership, direction, and supervision for academic support services, including university-wide tutorials, supplemental instruction, online instruction, mentoring and peer mentoring programs. He has also provided leadership in academic advising (for transfer and undeclared students and for students on probation and at risk of failure) and collaborated with deans and associate deans to coordinate and maximize school-based and program-based support services. Ensured alignment and strong connections to academic advising activities in schools, colleges, and academic units. Coordinated ACCESS Plus Summer Bridge program and other summer enrichment programs. In addition, Dr, Hamilton worked with units to develop, enhance, and expand student mentoring programs and established a university writing center to promote and facilitate student achievement. Data show that my efforts have been effective and fruitful.

Dr. Leroy Hamilton, Jr. provided leadership and supervision for academic support services, including university-wide tutorials and supplemental instruction to support retention and student persistence. He developed assessment plans in the Division of Student Affairs and facilitated programming initiatives to strengthen curricular and co-curricular activities.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Dr. Leroy Hamilton, Jr. taught a variety of courses in composition and literature (four courses per semester); advised students, served on departmental, school, and University-wide committees, and supported the mission of the University. Had successful experience in assessing programs, teaching traditional and online composition classes, writing grants, and employing digital technologies. Served as a certified evaluator for SACSCOC. Provided leadership for the SACSCOC Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) with launching and sustaining the QEP, an institutional-wide long-term initiative, to enhance critical thinking skills of undergraduate students. I chaired committees on the General Education Council, Council of Associate Deans, Faculty Senate, and the University Community of Practice project, along with other academic support initiatives that foster successful student learning outcomes.
